Please join us for our Spring Banquet at the New Ulm Country Club for a social hour beginning at 5 PM, dinner at 6 PM, and program to follow.

Landscape and Spiritual Renewal of the Borderland in Northwestern Bohemia: The Story of the U.S. Embassy American Center 2020 and 2021 Exhibits in Prague

After World War II and the expulsion of the German speaking people of Western Bohemia, also known as Czechoslovakia, villages and significant other places were left to let nature take its course. In some cases, new inhabitants who were not familiar with the area, were relocated to these places. Unfortunately, many villages were abandoned and left to their own demise.

Now, efforts are underway to renew and preserve cultural heritage in Northwestern Bohemia, especially in the Marienbad and Tepl region. Dr. Steiner’s story begins with discovering international efforts in the Czech Republic to renew the landscape and the spirit of abandoned villages and other significant places in Northwestern Bohemia. This discovery resulted in collaborating with local Czech residents to provide stories of Steiner’s ancestors, their friends and families who once lived in these abandoned villages and emigrated to Calumet County, Wisconsin.

The audience will learn about one of the stories and the recent work being done in Northwestern Bohemia.

Dinner menu:  Chicken Kiev, baked potato, California medley, salad and dinner roll
